“Learn the rules like a pro so you can break them like an artist.”
That’s one of my favorite quotes by Pablo Picasso. One item I love about abstract art is that I can bend the rules a bit. I can let creativity take over and see where it leads me. I employ some rather unusual supplies, play with color, mix realism with abstraction. This helps me learn to become more bold and experimental.
For example, I created this painting with not just acrylics from the tube, but also sharpies, acrylic pens, and various molding pastes and mediums.
Another skill I’ve been improving upon is video editing in Final Cut Pro. I push my boundaries by not only creating art but editing videos of me creating art. I’m enjoying the process of using arbitrary yet vivid colors, unusual shapes and rejecting the realistic types of paintings by forcing myself to become experimental and seeing things from a more supernatural perceptive. During the day, I follow a specific order and schedule for work. At night, I let my creativity flow. I’m enjoying the process now.
